TURNER-LIST L90 SERIES ENGINES

Turner List 2 stroke diesel engines
List 2 stroke diesel engines were designed by Professor Hans List of the Jenbach company in Graz, Austria and included 2 cylinder vertical, 3 cylinder vertical, vee 4 and vee 6 engines. The engines were still in the development stage and Jenbach had only produced a 2 cylinder version when Turner bought a licence to build the engines. Turner Manufacturing Company Ltd continued to develop the engines and produced 2 cylinder and 3 cylinder versions from 1954 to 1958. The engines were designated the 2L90 (2 cylinder List 90 series engine) known as the L40 and the 3L90 (3 cylinder List 90 series engine) known as the L60. There is a report of tests of an L40 engine being carried out in a Vauxhall Wyvern and a Land Rover in November 1953. The report of a test of an L40 in a Land Rover was featured in the December 1953 issue of the Commercial Motor and said that modifications were being carried out to the engine to reduce the length and allow an L60 to fit in the engine bay.
Power outputs for the engines were quoted as 37.5HP for the L40 and 56HP for the L60.
